Skytap To Discuss Cloud Economics & Licensing At Burton Group Catalyst Conference

Today we proudly announced that Deanne Harper, senior manager of Speech University at Nuance Communications, and our very own Sundar Raghavan, chief product and marketing officer at Skytap, will present at the Burton Group Catalyst Conference on July 28, 2010 in San Diego, CA. Both Harper and Raghavan will discuss real world applications for the cloud that can be used to accelerate business productivity, and share practical tips for companies to move to the cloud successfully. Structure 08

A few weeks back the Skytap team went to Structure 08 in San Francisco to hang out with the “who’s who” of cloud computing. We had two full days of meetings and showed off the latest features from Skytap Virtual Lab. I always enjoy trade shows as itâ€™s a great way to meet customers and partners and get real-time feedback on our product. Our CTO John Janakiraman had a few moments to step away from the action and do a quick interview (http://www.blip.tv/file/1100614). The highlight of the trip for me was getting to meet Mendel Rosenblum of VMware and getting his positive feedback on the direction Skytap is going. Tradeshows are generally not a place you would think of running into the co-founder of VMware but Structure 08 proved to be a tremendously valuable few days for us. We are looking forward to next year!

STAREAST

We just got back from STAREAST in Orlando and had a great experience. We met a huge number of experienced QA and IT professionals and got lots of interest in our Virtual Lab service. We spent most of our time at the demo stations giving attendees a firsthand view of how it works.

Here are some of our key takeaways from the show:

- Lots of attendees were experimenting with VMware ESX Server, but running into issues with VM sprawl and manageability

- Most folks we spoke to don’t want to be in the hardware business and it often takes quite a bit of time (1-2 days or more) for IT operations to provision a lab

- Many attendees understood the potential of virtualization but have not fully implemented a virtual lab capabilities into their QA process
